Puddle Jumping

Hi everyone,

Sorry it's been so long since my last post. The last few days I have been trying to upload some short videos that mom has taken of me doing preschool stuff but they seem to be a bit too big. I'll keep trying to get something that I can post, but until then hopefully this will tide you over.

If there is one thing that living in our state is good for, it is puddle jumping. Now these puddles are not really huge but that's only because mom wouldn't let me jump in the huge ones. That's probably because the really big ones were on the sides of the road and I wasn't allowed to go off the sidewalk or out of the driveway. I guess you gotta go with what you get. This experience definitely made a big impression on me though because when it started raining yesterday I asked mom if we could put on our rain boots and go jump in puddles.

A Little Trail Hike

Hi everyone,

The weather has been absolutely beautiful lately! We took advantage of a nice day to try out a new hiking trail. Now that I am too big for the backpack Mom and Dad have had to find new trails that are easy enough for a three year old to hike. I guess that means they won't be doing many of their rugged hikes if I'm going along for the ride, but just getting out and exploring new places is an adventure in itself. This particular hike was an old railroad grade which meant it was wide and flat and beautiful.

Camping at the Pad

Hi everyone,

We were planning on going on a winter camping trip but even with our trailer we decided that it was just a little too cold, windy, and wet to venture out. Instead we ended up having a campout right in our own house and backyard. We set up the tent, air mattress, and sleeping bags in the living room. Dad built a campfire using our little barbeque and we roasted brats and marshmallows over the open flame. Mom and Dad made smores but I'm still just of the mind frame that plain old roasted marshmallows are the best.

I have to admit though that after about 2 hours of climbing all over mom and dad, hitting my arm repeatedly against the side of the tent in an effort to fall asleep, and finally beginning to sing that Mom and Dad decided that I needed to sleep in my own bed in my own bedroom. I seem to have difficulty falling asleep when there are other people there to distract me. Mom and Dad slept in the tent though and then I got to play in it all the next morning. Maybe as I get a bit older I'll be able to actually sleep the whole night in the tent.

Welcome to Fort Betz

Hi everyone,

Every little kid has to have a special place all for themselves, right? Well, here is my special place, Fort Betz. I played under there, read books under there, ate under there. I would have even slept under there if mom and dad would have let me.

Of course, it only stayed up for about 4 days because Mom said that's about all she could take of not being able to use the dining room chairs and having a big monstrosity taking up house space. It sure was fun while it lasted.

My fort in all it's glory!

Najia exiting the premises.

Enjoying a little snack!

It's a Family Thing

Hi everyone,

Well, I guess Mom caught the blogging bug too. I mean for almost three years she has watched how easy it is for me to post about my happenings, but I guess it took a little while for her to want to get her feet wet. But, wet they have become.

You'll notice on the right side of my blog, right over there --------------->
and down a bit, there is now a link to our other blog called ALL BETZ OFF. This one is going to be written by Mom, unless anyone wants to make a guest appearance every now and then. She told me that she wanted a place where she could document her culinary experiments, and she has decided to take part in a baking challenge each month. She really didn't want just "anyone" coming over to my little old blog, hence she decided to make her very own. I wondered what was going to get her to venture out and try new things technologically. Of course, it's food, and baking to be more specific! I should have known.

She is going to let me post a photo of the very first recipe she posted about, and let me tell you this thing was yummy. After every bite I would say, "Mmmmmmm," and at one point I even paused long enough to say, "This is really yummy, Mommy." As you know, that is high praise coming from me. Although I tell Mom often how she is a good cooker, I rarely compliment an individual item. This recipe gets high marks from me and I give her permission to make it anytime she wants to.

Room Switcharoo

Hi everyone,

I am definitely a big boy now! I mean, I go potty in the toilet, I have my very own chores to do, I help cook food, I take care of my dog, and now I sleep in my big boy bed.

About a month ago, right before bedtime, out of the blue, I said to Mom, "I think I'm ready to sleep in my big boy bed tonight." Mom looked a little surprised, asked if I was sure, and said okay. I think she was kind of surprised because my bed had been set up in my "big boy bedroom" for about a year but I really didn't have an interest in sleeping in it. That night I slept in my big boy bed all night for the very first time.

The next day Mom asked me if I liked the idea of sleeping in the bed or in the room. I told her the bed, and she asked if I wanted to sleep in the room I'd always slept in or the new "big boy bedroom". I told her my old room because I wasn't a big fan of the light. When she asked me what light I told her the kitchen light. Since I go to bed so much earlier than them when the kitchen light was on it kind of bothered me. So, that weekend became "operation switch rooms". Mom and dad broke down my crib, moved my dresser and shelves, moved the twin bed in, and finished the trim on the walls. The other room is now my preschool/playroom.
